Ted Murin reports some significant increases in shorebird numbers at
Dead Creek WMA. The best numbers were from Farrell Access (west side of
creek) south to Stone Dam (east side of creek). The refuge staff is
drawing down this section of Dead Creek (from Stone Dam), so conditions
should continue to improve. A scope is necessary as many of the birds
are fairly far away from the best access points. Many of the Least
Sandpipers were among the buttonwood stumps, so check those areas
carefully for birds.
Highlights:
370 Least Sandpipers
90 Yellowlegs
1 Red-necked Phalarope
4 Bald Eagles
1 Peregrine Falcon
7 Great Egrets
