UVM's LISTSERV mailing list server will undergo downtime for a software upgrade at 6:45am next Thursday, September 16. The upgrade should be quick, but afterward LISTSERV will reindex list archives, which might take a short while.
Highlights of the changes in LISTSERV 16.0 include Unicode (international character) support in list messages, digests, archives, and archive search; HTML newsletter templates and style gallery; the ability to send test messages before sending a message to an entire list; and improvements to list archive searches. New site-wide features that we will likely be experimenting with include a default "how to unsubscribe" message at the bottom of posts to new lists and automatic handling of spam feedback reporting messages from large ISP's (primarily AOL), so that people who hit the "Report Spam" button simply get removed from the list whose message they didn't like, rather than causing delivery problems for the entire list server.
