Regarding the deletion of the message, I have seen IMAP clients "piling
up" on each other when multiple simultaneous clients are involved. One
client is doing an expunge of the Trash folder, which may take several
seconds, while another client is trying to move a deleted message to
it. I don't see this happening with your account (or anyone's) right now.
Personally, I don't use a Trash folder - I think it is counter to how
IMAP is supposed to work. For me, my server settings in Thunderbird are
set to "When I delete a message, just mark it as deleted." This is much
faster, in my experience. I expunge (in Thunderbird, "Compact") on a
daily basis, typically.
As far as K9 mail, I don't know why it would be failing to connect.
But, if you can send me the time that you tried to connect with your
phone and what your IP address was at that time, I can check the server
logs to see if I can find any clues.
