Five participants tallied 19 species at West Rutland Marsh this morning. This compares with 18 species one year ago and our ten-year average of 17.
A new high of 11 Tufted Titmouse was recorded; the previous high was seven.
Also of interest were three Red-tailed Hawks, one being harrassed by a crow, and a group of 38 Mourning Doves huddled together in their usual winter refuge, a south-facing bowl-like depression along Whipple Hollow Road.
The next marsh walk is scheduled for Saturday, February 19, timed to coincide with the Great Backyard Bird Count.
