The Northern Hawk Owl, not seen since 1/1, was present this morning at about
9:30 off the west side of Jones Brook Rd, way up on the hill near the
powerlines. It was perched atop a leafless tree for the 15-20 minutes I
observed it. Perhaps it has been hanging out on this powerline cut
out-of-sight the last few days? If it had been 100 yards farther west it
would not have been visible from the road. Good luck to anyone who goes
looking. For those who want to enjoy the bird without traveling, I'll be
posting a photo to the North Branch Nature Center blog this evening.
