Good morning all,
I received an e-mail concerning my report of purple finches. I was pretty sure of the identification and replied with the field marker that I had observed. However the more I thought about the identification the more doubt crept into my mind. I pulled out my Antique Peterson's and I felt somewhat less confident. The other books that I had in my library did not restore my confidence in my identification. I would suggest that the reports that I have posted containing purple finches should be read as purple birds. I will be more diligent in trying to identify these two different species by breaking out my binoculars. My apologies to the list. I cannot wait for the Warblers to arrive as I am miserable in identifying them.
Fortunately the birds at my feeder this morning are easy to identify: Chickadees, Blue Jay and several starlings.
Thanks for taking time to read this. The snow has tapered off in West Arlington and I hope that the rest of the list members do not have too much snow to shovel.
