Hi - I bought the Crossley guide last Saturday and have been engrossed in it many waking, not working moments.'

First of all, as an amateur photographer and Photoshop artist, I am amazed at the feat it took to produce this work.

Second, the philosophy of the book is so simple and yet profound. He is pushing us to see more, see better, and really look at the birds whether they are close or far away. See the example on Blue Jay in the introduction to get a sense of that mission.

Finally,while it does not replace my love of Sibley or joy in sitting with grandchildren and the Bird Songs book, this is a wonderful edition to my birding library.

Recently I was listening to Scott Shalaway's Birds & Nature podcast (from
ittsburgh,PA) and he mentioned that there was a new birding guide about to
e published. One week later he had the author as a guest in his radio show.
he book is titled "The Crossley ID Guide to Eastern Birds" written by Richard
rossley. The guide has over 10,000 images taken by the author to show
bout 640 species. This guide is very unique as each bird is shown in its
ypical habitat with multiple images pasted to the background. It shows
ifferent views from above, below, perched, flying, male/female, juveniles,
ifferent behaviors, etc. You have to see it to fully appreciate its novel
