Hi Birders,
Four Mad Birders left the Mad River Valley early this morning for Chimney
Point on Lake Champlain. We were hoping to find the Barrow's Goldeneye
among the many other duck species there. No luck with Barrow's, but good
sightings, with
ducks moving farther from shore as the ice retreats. We then moved south
to Bridport, Orwell, Shoreham, braved Rte 73 that was closed according to
signs, but water had retreated so we were able to get through to Brandon.
We continued on Rte 73, stopping at the top of Brandon Gap, hoping to spot
the Peregrine that was reported this week, but didn't see him(her).
It was a good day, with 45 species seen, several were new species for the
year. Those included (for me) American Coot, Snow Geese, Song Sparrow,
Belted Kingfisher.
I've included a couple of ebird lists, compiled by superlister, Ali
Wagner. She
and Patti Haynes are so good about keeping track of everything seen.
Tonight is full moon and is supposed to look especially big since the moon
is closer than usual to earth. Think a full moon snowshoe is a good idea,
hoping for a Barred Owl out there.
Am hoping that Fox Sparrows, American Woodcock, and other birds seen down
south make it to the Mad River Valley soon.
Happy birding,
Pat
