Yesterday I was surprised to see a large, gray and white bird hovering in front of my rhododendron bush. My initial thought was a Mockingbird, but I quickly realized it was a Northern Shrike. It was only seconds before a Chickadee came out of the bush and flew for cover of a hemlock tree, with the Shrike in hot pursuit. I wasn't able to see the outcome.
