In Milton. I guess a sign of spring, but not welcome, we have 2 mourning doves under our feeders gobbling down the sunflower seeds that the goldfinches are obligingly tossing their way and that I'd rather see the Cardinals get.
and the other, unfortunately the first Pileated Woodpecker that I've seen this season, was lying dead in the middle of Rt 2A on the Colchester/Essex line near Rt 289. Not a pleasant discovery. I'm assuming it was a juvenile, although that's not based on anything scientific, it looked a little small compared to what I usually see in our feeder area.
