For what it's worth about noon time I had a lone White-winged Crossbill female visit my feeder. At first glance I thought it was an American Goldfinch of which I have many, but it was funny looking-bigger, odd white wingbars, and so forth. A closer look at the bill established the id. I haven't followed the reports of WW Crossbills in Vermont very closely this year, but my impression is that there have not been many crossbills around and that several of the reports have been from feeder observers.
I could easily have overlooked this bird, dismissing it as a goldfinch. Makes me wonder how many I have missed this winter/spring.
