Yesterday, Eva and I hiked the Monroe Trail to the summit. My
personal quest was to add three FOY birds (Yellow-bellied Flycatcher,
Bicknell's and Swainson's thrushes). I ended up with 2 of the 3.
Species tallied during the ascent (1235-1545) in order of first occurrence:
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler
During the descent (1730-1955) also in order of first occurrence:
Black-throated green Warbler
Very little bird activity at summit, however the fantistic views made
up for it. Oh, there was a FOY Red Admiral butterfly on top and ALOT
of hikers. Had we stayed later timing our descent closer to dusk
perhaps we would have added Bicknell's Thrush...something to look
forward to on the next visit.
