Late yesterday afternoon, I was driving up my road on the way home and
encountered a Canada Goose and at least four young toddling along the side
of the road. She didn't like the look of my Outback approaching, so she
escorted her progeny into the high grasses, then set about taking care of
the big blue monster. I could only creep along, as she just hugged my
driver's side tire while I carefully moved up the road. She was trotting,
panting and determined to get me away from the kids! Once we had gotten far
enough away for her comfort, she stopped, looked up at the window
disdainfully, and dismissed me. I watched her in my rearview mirror
toddling back down the road.
As someone wrote a few days ago, it is certainly fun watching birds this
time of year--and being watched by them!
*Birds were the earth's first musicians.*
