The next survey of birds at Hildene: The Lincoln Family Home in Manchester will be Saturday, July 16. The walk will start at the Visitors Center at 7 a.m. and
end at the wetlands behind the Meadows on River Road between 10 and 11 a.m.
The late May, early June walks turned out to be spectacular in the
number of birds seen and heard well. Two new species, a Peregrine Falcon and an
immature Bald Eagle bring the Hildene list up to 130 species. It's hard to
believe that July is the tail end of the breeding season, so we will look and
listen for squawking young or parents feeding young.
The walks are open
to beginners to advance birders. The count is coordinated by the Vermont Bird
Place & Skywatch; all data is entered in the international database, ebird,
free and accessible to all. Call 362-2270 for more information. Registration
is not necessary.
