I want to better understand how data comes out of UVM's LDAP server.
The return format of PHP's ldap_get_entries function contains an array
for every LDAP attribute that comes out of the server. I would like to
learn, based on the schemas in use, whether I can expect a single value
in any given field as opposed to the possibility of multiple values.
E.g. I would expect only one dn. I would also like to learn what other
assumptions I can make of the data.
I think the best way to gain this sort of literacy would be to build my
I'm currently looking at a webpage
(http://www.zytrax.com/books/ldap/ch3/), and reminiscing to the first
time I thought about learning how to build an LDAP schema a few years
ago. Where I got stuck was obtaining an OID. Because I'm doing this as a
learning exercise, going through the IANA enterprise process doesn't
make much sense to me. It would still be good to know the IANA process,
but I would like to know what I can use as an OID for learning purposes.
My questions to the more experienced ears:
1. What is the process for obtaining an OID from IANA like?
2. How can I generate OIDs for learning purposes?
