Some banks don't have separate discharge papers, so they'll send you the entire mortgage. All you need to record in the discharge (usually on the last page), so the charge would be just $10. But it's worth a call to them to confirm.

That is odd. Have you called him? It's always a bit touchy when you
question what a lawyer is doing but sometimes they are glad to have the
information from your point of view. You could just say that, since you are
new at this game, you are trying to learn how and why things are done.
