As I was scanning for a calling Greater Yellowlegs in the West River behind
the Marina Restaurant in Brattleboro around 1:30PM, a Red-necked Phalarope
landed in the water. I watched as it drifted with the current, occasionally
spinning, for about 500yards before flying off. I managed one long distance
photo which I posted to the Vt eBird group.
Around 8:00AM I luckily ran into Hector Galbraith at the water treatment
plant on Rt 30 who identified a calling American Golden Plover. We were
able to observe it flying south over the cornfield across the West River and
over to the Connecticut River.
