Last Sunday (10/23) I was surprised to come across a pair of Fox Sparrows on
the Sunset Ridge trail of Mt. Mansfield, way up in the stunted fir zone.
Also in the same area were a Ruffed Grouse and lots of robins feasting on
the abundant mountain-ash berries. Along the ridgeline I encountered what
can best be described as a large swarm of Pine Siskins; there must have been
a few hundred packed tightly together!
