A quick stop at Berlin Pond this morning yielded a Red-necked Grebe,
Double-crested Cormorant, Mallard, Hooded Mergansers, Ring-necked Ducks,
Wood Ducks, and of course, Canada Geese. I didn't check the south end of
the pond, so there could be more birds on the water. There were also 5
sparrow species present this morning: Lincoln's, Swamp, Song,
White-throated, and Dark-eyed Junco.
The North Branch Nature is hosting several walks at Berlin Pond this fall,
including one this coming Saturday... see below for details:
*Berlin Pond Waterfowl Walks*
Saturdays, October 8 and November 5, 7:30-10 a.m.
Fee: $5 members, $10 nonmembers
Fall migration isn’t over yet! We’ll look for lingering loons, waterfowl and
more on Berlin Pond. We may find American Coot, Black Scoter or some other
surprise at this birding hotspot.
