SEEDlings,
It was wonderful to see you all last night! We're glad that so many
of you are having good experiences with SEEDS and that there are new
people interested as well. For those of you that couldn't come, the
lesson plan that we recommended was about watersheds. The three
activities that we discussed are the following:
1. Activity where kids try to pass water with their hands down a line.
This can lead into a discussion on the importance of conserving
water. Then kids use a cup instead of their hand to pass water down a
line of them. Then you can discuss what all of their cups could
represent as ways to conserve water. (ex. "my cup represents taking
shorter showers" etc.)
2. Acting out the water cycle: You can assign one kid or a group of
kids to a certain part of the water cycle (rain, cloud, river,
estuary, ocean, evaporation etc.) and then they can try to put
themselves in order. After they try this, you can then explain the
water cycle to them.
3. Activity showing pollutants in watersheds: Crumple up paper and
then lay it out on a pan. Then you can ask kids for different
potential water pollutants (car oil, fertilizers, animal poop etc.)
and draw with markers on the paper to represent the different
pollutants. Then you can spray water with your hands onto the
"watershed" that you have created and it can show the mixing of
pollutants and how it drains into "water bodies" (the flat part of the
pan.
The markers and tray for this last activity will be in the closet in
the SGA offices by Monday afternoon for you to come and get if you want.

Also, we need to fund raise for SEEDS, and we were thinking of taking
part in a Feel Good fundraiser where we come up with a sandwich and
then they sell it for $1 more and then the extra dollar would go
towards SEEDS! We need a clever sandwich name and a list of
ingredients for the sandwich. In the meeting people came up with "The
after school snack". I believe that the ingredients were peanut
butter, strawberries, and banana...yummm. So please send us any
sandwich ideas!
Have a great weekend!
-Sarah and Maggie
