The bird will be banded and documented tomorrow morning - I will report what we find as soon as I can.

Video with vocalizations will be up in about 20 minutes.

Thanks - Randy

And I notice that, other than ruby-throated, there is only one other hummingbird species on the state list: Rufous. So I hope people are keeping their feeders filled and their eyes open. Being that a Rufous/Allen's is currently being seen, I agree with Bryan that someone needs to fully document this bird so a positive id can be made. Or better yet, Maryland birder's have 2 banders on call for vagrant hummers. Once they've gotten the okay from the homeowner, the guys band the hummer in order to thoroughly and completely document the bird.

(But immature Ruby-throated Hummingbirds can show a cinnamon wash below, and birders even need to consider Calliope Hummingbird when these show up; this one ain't a Calliope.) Identification in Selasphorus is perilous. If anyone goes for photos, please try to get shots (fast shutter speed!) of the spread tail. And vocalizations from any video would help. This appears to be an immature Rufous/Allen's. Rufous Hummingbird certainly shows up in the East in the fall. But it pays to be sure. In any event, it's exciting news!
