Sorry for the late posting. (My e-mail has been unrelaible lately.)
Yesterday (Tuesday) in the pond at the west end of the viewing area
at Dead Creek, there were two Greater White-Fronted Geese. They
looked bigger than the Snow Geese (although Sibley says the two
species are the same size), partly because the GWFG were extremely
alert. They were swimming together, not feeding, not splashing, not
preening – necks very straight, heads held high. Other birders have
mentioned only one of this species there, so I wondered if the second
was new to the flock and if the super alertness was some sort of
getting-to-know-you behavior.
