I tried for the Say's Phoebe that was reported yesterday in Ferrisburgh (see
Ian Worley's posting from yesterday for directions). I arrived there at 7:20
a.m. this morning. There was about 6 inches of snow but the road all the way
to the gate was plowed. I waited for a bit and at 7:42 a.m., the Say's Phoebe
popped up and flew toward the barn. It perched on a woven wire mesh fence
that is connected to the barn. It then went down into a thicket for several
minutes and popped up on a steel pipe rail, that is connected to 6x6 wooden
posts. That rail terminates against the barn wall. The Phoebe was on the rail
facing the barn wall and kept flying up and against the wall presumably
grabbing bugs or flys or spiders etc. It kept landing in the same spot that it
was taking off from (as many flycatchers do). I was able to get great looks at
this beauty for several minutes. I hope that it will stay for others to see it.
Good luck if you go,
Jim Mead
