I was in my garage this afternoon and heard a loud bang that hit the garage
hard enough to make the garage door springs vibrate. I went outside and
found a dead grouse on the lawn about 15 feet from the garage wall. It
apparently hit a small window opposite the overhead door, and must have
been really traveling to bounce back that far. I've heard so many stories
of grouse flying into things (not just windows). Some years ago one flew
into the side of my van while I was traveling about 40 mph. And I know
someone who while working in his sugarbush flushed a grouse that flew
directly into a tree trunk and died instantly. Makes me wonder how they
survive.
