I spent a couple hours yesterday afternoon surveying the area where Ian saw the Snowy Owl the day before.
I covered most of the fields from Spear Street at Barstow south to Irish Hill, then back to Barstow, over to Dorset, up and down Dorset a bit, and on over Cheese Factory to Hinesburg Rd.
Didn't see the owl.  But, conditions were really tough.  Bright sunlight on new snow -- almost blinding.  Could have been there and I just missed it.
I did see several very large (500+) flocks of Starlings, and large congregations of Crows -- often with the Starling groups.  Didn't hear and Fish Crows.
One particularly large group was on Sutton Farm Road -- the first right off Dorset, going south from Barstow.  The views of fields to the east looking from the intersection of that Sutton Farm and Dorset are wonderful -- but owl-less on Thursday.
