There are two tools that I switch between for cleaning profiles.
DrivePurge (http://www.gaijin.at/en/dldrivepurge.php) and CClean (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner)
You might need to run the cleaner as the user, but it should flush out a lot of crap regardless.
