This evening, I witnessed a great woodcock display in Waitsfield village on the west hillside from the old polo field town land and seems like a great place to view them while they are doing their thing. There is access ramp off of the loop road (Old Country Road on Google maps) and the best place to view is at the southern end of the mowed portion of the field facing the hillside meadow to the west. This evening, the one woodcock reliably launched eastward off the hillside meadow, so it was very easy to pick up the silhouette in the remaining sky light.
“We abuse land because we regard it
as a commodity belonging to us.
When we see land as a community
to which we belong, we may begin
to use it with love and respect.”
