In Marlboro, we are all in one office. If someone comes in to pay taxes
when the Treasurer and/or her assistant are not here, I will accept a
payment. I make a copy of the check or the cash and make a note that I
received it for the payer. I do not mark tax bills paid or provide any
other receipt as I do not know all the details of bills (e.g. if someone has
a bounced check fee due for a previous payment). I put the payment in the
vault and leave a note for the Treasurer to let her know it is there.
