A resident male hummer (I don't believe he is the dominant male) spends much
of his day on a phone wire close to our house. Males have always spent time
on this wire, always facing front to guard a nearby feeder.
THIS year, this particular hummer sits always facing the OTHER way, sitting
quite close to an alternating pair of phoebes who have a nest full of young
10 feet away on a shed. He flies with the phoebes to various shrubs and
trees, then returns to his "watch." He sits there facing the phoebe nest
most of the day.
Guesses as to his motivation here?
