On Friday we were sitting on our porch and I spotted what I thought was very pretty bird fly rather rapidly from one tree to another. It was completely one color, a light greenish yellow. Naturally we had never seen bird at our home that color. We thought it might be an escapee or that perhaps the sun had caught a Goldfinch. That was the last of it until this morning.
This morning we found a large wounded moth on our porch and it was indeed what we had seen on Friday. Our butterfly book identified it as a Lunar moth and it is a beautiful animal. Unfortunately part of its tail was ripped off and it surely was near its end. Our book said they can be as large as 4.5 inches so that is why we thought it was a bird flying from tree to tree.
It was a first for us.
