Hi,
Does anyone have suggestions for finding data on the incidence of cardiac arrhythmia in the United States (current info.) I have checked MMWR and CDC's Health United States 2011 and CDC's Fast Stats but I am unable to find info on cardiac arrhythmias as a group rather than specific arrhythmias or heart disease.

Thank you for your assistance.

Subject: PubMed to catalog F&S videos

From Medpage Today:

Here at MedPage Today, we read a lot of papers in medical journals. Some ar=
e written better than others, but they're all pretty much the same -- abstr=
act, introduction, methods, results, discussion. Occasionally, when reading=
a paper about a surgical technique or new device, I find myself wanting mo=
re illustrations or even a video showing me how it works.

Those aren't found in the vast majority of cases, but perhaps a new initiat=
ive by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and Elsevier -- the p=
ublisher of the society's journal, Fertility and Sterility -- can take publ=
ications in that direction. The idea is to allow peer-reviewed video report=
s to be cited in the same way as a written article and indexed on PubMed. A=
n abstract of the video report is included in the print version of the jour=
nal, allowing readers to find non-written reports through traditional means=
.

snip
You can find an example here: Single Port Laparoscopy<http://fertstertforum=
.com/2012974caravalho/>. The nearly 7-minute video -- narrated by one of th=
e researchers -- takes viewers through a review of the abdominal wall anato=
my, a description of single port devices, the demonstration of different ty=
pes of single port systems, and a look at the advantages and disadvantages =
to single port laparoscopy

Subject: unusual question

Hello all

We received a question from a county corner yesterday and are stumped.

here is what he told us "shotgun wound case (homicide) with slug
ammunition and noticed an imprint on the skin, probably from the shotgun
wadding. Looking for articles with images of wadding imprints on skin
with shotgun injuries".

We found a couple that mentioned the shotgun wadding, but no real
images. We have searched PubMed, Google Scholar, MD Consult, Cochrane,
our EBSCO databases and Mosby's Nursing Consult. Tried a few derm and
trauma texts too.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Cindy

Subject: Recommended links for a hospital resources directory???

Hello! I hesitate to request this because I envision an onslaught of
suggestions ... but I'd rather do that than miss anything important.

I've been requested to create an online resource directory for the
medical staff (as well as others) here at Meritus Health. I already
have the in-house resources such as EBSCO and UpToDate listed. I also
have a lot of Web resources listed, but I'd be interested in hearing
which Web resources would be particularly important for hospital
staff. I'm only listing a couple of consumer health
sites--MedlinePlus and SeniorHealth.gov, so I don't need any more
consumer sites. I also have PubMed listed, so no need to suggest
that. I'd tell you all the others I already have, but perhaps the
info would be helpful for others here, so I can list them all in a
future email to the group.

Thanks in advance!

Mary

Hi--Maybe contact local law enforcement--they might have a database of
such things. Or, try a forensics department of a university.

Hello, everyone.

I have a two part question. A health informatics professor "would like
to identify a search engine, something like Google Scholar, that could
be used to qualify multimedia content such as videos, podcasts, etc. by
a variety of criteria. The content, preferably, would be either
academic, peer-reviewed, or industry-sponsored associations, or even
governmental. Does such a search engine or capability exist?" He is
not a fan of YouTube for a variety of reasons. Any ideas besides
limiting by video on a specific browser? Although not a search engine,
one idea I had was MERLOT.

Does anyone know of any library resources or websites with health
informatics or informatics videos? The resources I checked such as
Academic Video Online do not have health informatics videos.

Publishing with SAGE: Case Study of the Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic
Investigation

When the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians
went looking for a "one-stop shop", a publishing solution to handle all
aspects of the publishing process for their acclaimed journal JVDI, they
found partnering with SAGE and the HighWire platform an ideal solution
to meet their needs to streamline their production time frames and
achieve their goals.
