I heard a Scarlet Tanager singing and coming closer and closer to the house.
I put down my magazine. Next, the song came from the willow. Then, aha!
The beautiful flash of red swooped out of the willow just as a male Eastern
Bluebird swooped across and behind it and up into the willow. Who needs 4th
of July fireworks, anyway?
PS The Grackles in the nest on the barn ledge on top of the former Robin
nest fledged today. 2nd batch of Phoebes ready to go soon, and second
Bluebirds to follow.
