Cuckoos have been getting more vocal recently. Yesterday I heard 1 up in
Enosburg, on a site I've yet to have one on, and today there were 2 calling
in the woods at the Green Mountain Audubon Center. Several species have
grown remarkably quiet, like Mourning Warblers, but there's still plenty of
birds singing out in the woods, and the first of the southbound migrants
are not far away! Already I've seen several species apparently wandering
from their breeding territories, showing up on my plots in places I've not
had them before.
