Met up with Team Pipit at the north end for some Berlin Pond
birding this morning. The signs for nesting Loons were down and there
were no boats or fishermen around, just fast drivers. We did locate a
pair of Loons at the southern end, but with no chick in sight. We
wondered if there has ever been a successful nest on the pond. Another
interesting pair that we found were Pileated Woodpeckers, also at the
southern end. Two broods of Black Ducks of differing ages were another
highlight, as were Chimney Swifts 'smacking' the water for bugs.
The one bird that we had actually gone looking for today, the Marsh
Wren, eluded us.
