Driving through South Hero yesterday afternoon I stopped briefly to check out the marsh on Tracy Road. In the wet, open area north of Tracy Road I counted eight Great Egrets that were feeding together-an astonishing sight. In addition I saw several Wood Ducks (11), Mallards (7), Black-crowned Night Heron (1), GB Heron (1), Belted Kingfisher (1), Spotted Sandpiper (1), and assorted RW Blackbirds in this area of the marsh. Two more Great Egrets were feeding on the south side of the road for a total of ten.
Amazing.
