While this isn't as impressive as the Westminster Station count, I was surprised to see 6 common nighthawks hunting above the Middlesex Exit (Exit 9) on I-89 on my way home from work last night. The birds were just west of the interchange when I passed at 6:40. I turned around in Waterbury, and they were still there when I got back to Middlesex at 6:55. Unfortunately they were far enough west that it was difficult to observe them from Center Road. Given how little use that northbound entrance ramp gets I was comfortable stopping for a moment to watch. At 65 mph they look like giant chimney swifts!
