Janet and all you wonderful VT birders - please keep an eye out at your hummer feeders for late hummers. Some of those "leftovers' after the Ruby-throats leave in September are likely to be exotic, vagrant Western birds such as a Rufous or better.
A Rufous I banded last November in East Arlington set a new Winter record for northern New England into mid-January.

Subject: [VTBIRD] It's getting to be fall!
Sure signs of fall in Randolph Center - the last few days I have been hearing
the cha-BEEP of baby goldfinches and I keep filling up my hummer feeders and
they keep emptying them. In another 10 days or so and the hummers will be on
their southward path. Hate to see it all happen!
