Friday evening after work I stopped by Brilyea access area at Dead Creek.
It was very hot, and saw a few Solitary Sandpipers, Least Sandpipers and 2
Great Egrets. What shocked me was the pond was filled with Great Blue
Herons, I counted a total of 41 from left to right from one view point, but
there were likely more present, most with mouths and wings open due to the
heat. Returning Sat. morning, there were perhaps 10 visible but they were
likely out hunting. I spied a group of 5 Killdeer, 2 Semipalmated
Sandpipers, a bunch (~6 ) Cedar Waxwings , and several flycatchers (likely
willow - but not singing, and I can't tell them apart). In the back meadow
past the gate on the right /north, there was a female Northern Harrier
hunting the meadow, and I got to watch it soar back and forth for about 5
minutes.
