The mouth of the Dead Creek is certainly the place to be! I encountered an
almost uncountable number of birds on Saturday. In addition to the gulls,
terns, sandpipers, plovers, ducks, egrets, herons and eagles, I was pleased
to spot a whimbrel, a ruddy turnstone, a northern harrier (almost getting
its talons on a duck), and both an immature black-crowned night heron and an
immature green heron (both really close up). If you're a birder, it's most
definitely worth the paddle out to that spot!
