It saddens me to say that this will be the my last post of the year to VT
Birds, I'll be moving out to Maine tomorrow, and won't be back until next
year (unless I can chase a Great Gray Owl up here this winter....)
Thank you all for sharing your birds with me this summer, and being so
friendly and welcoming to someone new to the state. I've really enjoyed it,
and I must say this is one of my favorite listservs to have been on (and
I've been on quite a few, with all the moving around I've done..).
Delta Park gave me my last state bird for the summer, a Pectoral Sandpiper.
That makes 175 species seen this summer, according to Ebird. Other
highlights included a merlin and a juvenile Northern Harrier, the
continuing Stilt Sandpiper among some least sandpipers, semipalmated
plovers and single lesser and greater yellowlegs. 11 Great Egrets flew
overhead, heading east for some reason, but an eye to the sky failed to
turn up any nighthawks, as I'd hoped to add them to my state list.. There's
always next year.
Take care and bird often!
