Report from the north country: A single nighthawk cruised through our
meadow on a still, warm evening; dragonflies filled the air. Hummingbirds
remain at the feeder; black-throated greens and yellow-rumps are tanking up
on insects before the evening migration. Canada geese in small flocks are
active this morning and evening. Interesting mix of the seasons as
reflected by the mix of avian species. Possible frost tonight that will
likely push the hardy hummingbirds out of town.
