Even though a self-professed perfume junkie myself, I've gone home with a
thundering headache from exposure to the stench of a patient's cheap, heavy
cologne in close quarters for an extended period of time. As with any other
situation where there is something you don't want in your nasal or oral mucous
membranes (i.e., TB), don a mask. If you're truly worried about offending, tell
them you have a cold/sore throat/allergy and don't want to expose them to it.
