Hey everyone,
I have an order to perform a pre-op study for a patient who will be having
cardiac surgery (tricuspid valve) repair. The patient is going to have it done
non-sternotomy, so I assume they will be going through the groin to do this
surgery.
Anyway, the doctor has ordered the following:
"eval femoral artery for cannulation - preop robotic surgery"
"eval femoral vein for cannulation - preop robotic surgery"
My question is: Do they just want to know if the vein and artery are patent?
Or is there more that they need to know? Such as 2D diameter of the
vessels?
I am assuming they need to know if there is any obstructive lesion in either
vessel...but what else would they need to know for a cannulation?
Thanks
Chris
