I do quite a few vein mappings, both for AVF and BPG. We are careful to
schedule these within a week of the surgery date. Recently we have had a
couple issues. One the patient did not show up for surgery and decided to
postpone. Two the patient ate the morning of scheduled surgery and had to
be rescheduled. Both of these instances made the surgery date be outside of
the one week window. Does that automoatically mean we won't get paid for
the mapping? Are allowances made for instances when the surgery is
rescheduled? We are planning to start making patients sign an ABN. I think
that a lot of patients may be confused by this and may even see it as our way
of trying to get their money. What are others doing to circumvent this issue?
Thanks.
