umm, umm, but wouldn't one of the skills needed to go through the gate be having the judgement and courage to decide if one should actually go through the gate? I'm so confused.;-)
I'm not sure if courage is the word, I usually have a low level of fear (of avalanches) pretty much all the time I have a beacon on.
But another point, what about the skill of picking your buddies? Personally, I would really really hesitate to go into the back country without being sure my buddies ski well enough to handle it, ie know how to snowplow and sideslip and for sure kick turn, and also haul me out if I get hurt.
