Hello Vermont Birders:
I have a friend coming to visit this weekend from Virginia and Pine
Grosbeak would be a new bird for him so I did some scouting this morning.
I went to Technology Park on Community Drive, off Kimball Avenue, in South
Burlington. I came across flocks of 9, 11, 13, and 20 Pine Grosbeaks. I
know there is some overall there but not sure how much. I had the pleasure
of bumping into Maeve Kim there. Always nice to put a face to an email
address since I so rarely see other birders in the field.
Upon exiting, I took a left off of Kimball Avenue onto Old Farm Road. At
the south end, just before it reaches Rt.116, there was a scattered flock
of ~200 Bohemian Waxwings feasting on buckthorn (unfortunately) on either
side of the road. At the rate they were consuming it, they won't be there
Switching gears, like many of you, I have been noticing pairs of Red-tailed
Hawks perching together recently.
