After seeing Bruce MacPherson’s post about the last Friday about the Red-shouldered Hawk at Woodside Park in Essex, I went in search of it today. Around 4:00, immediately after arriving, I spotted a RSHA on the right side of the wide, main path. I was happy to get around 10 minutes of good looks at the bird, following it to a few perches and managing several photos.
I’m very curious about the history of this species at Woodside Park and in Vermont. I know they have been recorded nesting there for a number of years. If anyone has information about Red-shouldered Hawks nesting at Woodside I’d be interested to hear about it. I think there was some discussion of the possibility of a hybrid pairing with a Red-tailed, although I think this has been discounted. Thanks in advance, on or off list, for any info!
