Deep snow drove birds to the roadside, so as I returned from Middlebury to
Weybridge, I slowed along Route 23 for a flock of 34 Snow Buntings and a
separate flock of at least 40 Horned Larks. One Killdeer flew up from the
roadside and 2 American Crows were chasing one of the pair of Red-tailed
Hawks living in the clayplain forest behind our house. Another Killdeer
flew over our field complaining aloud about the lack of clear ground.
