During the North Branch Nature Center's trip this past Saturday to the
Champlain Valley, one of our highlights was an odd goose found at the
Champlain Bridge. After much discussion and deliberation, it looks like an
apparent Snow X Canada Goose hybrid. A photo and short trip report are
posted on the Nature Center's Blog:
Here are some other notable observations from Saturday (and from scouting
Champlain Bridge - the hybrid goose was the highlight, but there are still
Redheads around, too.
Tri-town - A flock of ~50 Bohemian Waxwings was in a backyard nearby.
Also, both Iceland and Glaucous Gulls (very distant) were seen. On Friday,
a drake Barrow's Goldeneye was also seen.
Panton Rd - Rough-legged hawks on the road, and tons of waterfowl (GW Teal,
Pintail, Wigeon, Gadwall) in the water.
Basin Harbor Rd. - All the same waterfowl as Panton Road, but also a Snow
Little Otter Creek - Gadwall, Wigeon, and Pintail
Charlotte Town Beach - Too windy to see much on Saturday, but on Friday
there were 9 Red-breasted Mergansers
