Jim Osborn & I arrived at Turkey Lane around 10:15 a.m. We were soon joined by JoAnne Russo & Jerry. We did not find the Slaty-backed Gull but did see the pair of Redheads. We then went to Potash Bay where Jim, JoAnne & I walked out onto the ice and got within 200 yards of the ice edge where there were around 2,000 gulls. We pretty much struck out because we could not find the previously reported Slaty-backed, Glaucous or Iceland Gulls among the Ring-billed, Herring and Great Black-backed Gulls.
Jim & I then went to Button Bay, Kellogg Bay & Porter Bay and struck out again with the same 3 species. It's probably a good thing that we're not heading for Spring Training tryouts. While at Button Bay we did see 2 adult Greater White-fronted Geese and a female Canvasback. These were most likely the same birds previously reported by Ron Payne & Ian Worley at Turkey Lane on 2/23/13. We also had 2 Snow Geese while there.
On our way to Button Bay, we stopped at the south end of Arnold Bay Rd. and viewed White Bay. We saw 14 Northern Pintails (12m, 2f).
